Summer Gardens June 2018

Welcome to a snapshot of summer in my tiny part of Southwest Oklahoma.
Many triple digit temperatures days, south or southwest winds with long periods between rain events.

National Weather Service 3 day forecast.
May 31, Sunny and hot, with a high near 102. Southwest wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
June 1, Sunny and hot, with a high near 102. Heat index values as high as 108. South wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.
June 2, Sunny and hot, with a high near 102.

I can’t wait for summer to arrive in another 20 days, that’s when the really warm dry weather arrives. πŸ™‚

  2. Tropical Storm (now Depression) could not wait for hurricane season to start. We have been under clouds, rain, and thunderstorms for days. Too wet to do much in the garden. Creeks are rising. – Oscar

  4. When it gets unbearsbly hot, I resort to old fashioned ways like what my parents uaed to do: put a cold cloth around my neck. I always get teased with this look, but whatever! It’s environmentally friendly, cheap, and effective!!

  6. Even in Canada, (after a late cold spring), we have had a really hot humid week much like you would expect in mid-summer….(35 C) but sadly no rain for my newly planted garden. I hate when we go right into summer without any spring-like days.

    • It seems like the jet stream has shifted north bring you more warm/hot and dry weather than is normal.
I hope you get a nice cooling rain on your garden soon.

  7. Exactly what we have had up here at the 51st parallel in Manitoba but take 20 degrees off all temps. Unusually cold and late early spring followed by a stretch of hot dry weather, summer in July. We had a severe thunderstorm with tornado warnings break the heat and we’ve just enjoyed inches of some lovely and much needed cooling rain. More rain forecast for today and tomorrow. I hope you get some soon. (Rain I mean, not tornados.)

  8. It was 95-100 all Memorial weekend in my corner of Nebraska. This is pretty unusual for this part of the country, and followed a colder-than normal spring. It looks like a rollercoaster summer.
