Sick .. Maybe It’s Your Air Freshener

This is a report from the United Kingdoms, Telegraph website.
This has me rethinking what and when I use off the shelf products.

Report warns of the hidden threat, air pollution in our homes. Thousands more people than previously thought are dying each year from the effect of poor air quality, including pollutants from everyday objects and appliances in their homes.

Everyday kitchen products, open fires, fly sprays and even air fresheners, contribute to poor indoor air quality.

Among the most disturbing aspects of air pollution highlighted by the report is that posed by such common items as air fresheners and personal hygiene, DIY and cleaning products.

Certain furniture, fabric, furnishings, glue and insulation can emit formaldehyde vapor, causing irritation to the lungs.
Biological materials found in the home, such as dust mites, mold and animal dander, flecks of skin and fur can also harm human health.

This report warns that while young children and the elderly are particularly sensitive to air pollution.

Open your windows, let in the Fresh Air.

  2. Yes I’ve been mindful of this the past year or so, I do love fresh air anyway and dislike the scents of air fresheners, bleach, glue, and a lot more, but that is because I have a very sensitive sense of smell. I have read and heard a lot about this cause of irritation among others of cleaning products etc….. A good blog write up, good information, many thanks.

    • Grin… in our modern day, tightly closed houses, artificial air circulating systems, it is sometimes difficult to truly air out your home. However the benefits out weigh the inconveniences associated with opening windows and doors to allow the flow for natures fresh air in to our homes.

  4. It is something I’ve been mindful of for some time now. Your advice is good. Get rid of unnecessary sprays and open the windows more often.
