Detached – Them And Us

This posting has little to do with gardening. However when I saw this article on BBC News magazine I had to share it with my friends and fellow bloggers.

Santosh’s wife applies a dab of vermillion to the fridge, to keep away evil spirits, and then blows on a conch shell to seek divine blessings and welcome the fridge into their home. The fridge has pride of place – next to Santosh’s sewing machine and their tiny television set.

  1. Amazing! I just cleaned my freezer, which is in addition to refrigerator/freezer in kitchen. Difficult to imagine summer in India without a fridge (or A/C)

  3. Very interesting. I often think about what an awesome luxury a refrigerator is, especially during the summer. Being able to have ice, or to keep meat for long periods without any effort is truly a wonderful thing. I think that fact hit home in a big way during and after Katrina – there were discarded refrigerators and bags of spoiled food as far as the eye could see!
