This is the time of the year many gardeners thoughts turn to giving extra care to their pepper crop.
FAQ For Pepper Growers and Want To Be Pepper Growers This link is for a post I made on February 21, 2011 that will answer many of your questions about peppers and pepper growing that you may have.
Peppers come in hundreds of colors, shapes, flavor and hotness ratings. Everything from sweet with absolutely no heat in them to the ones that spontaneously explode into a fire ball in your mouth requiring a cast iron stomach and an indestructible digestive system to eat them.
Peppers are generally rated for hotness using the Scoville scale. This scale rates peppers on a scale of Zero (0) to over 9 million scovielle units. The hotter the pepper the higher it’s scoville rating. The below chart is by no means an all inconclusive rating of all peppers, but, it will give you a good indication where many different peppers heat rating fall on the scoville scale.
